Advancing Data Protection Policies: SCSP Meeting Insights
On June 12, 2024, the Steering Committee of Strategic Planning (SCSP) convened a crucial meeting at the University Cultural Center (Meeting Hall) to discuss several important topics related to policy development and strategic planning.
The meeting commenced with an agenda that highlighted the review and discussion of the current status of policy proposals received from March to May, the Enhancing UoD’s Digital Infrastructure Project (EDIP), the Implementation of the Bologna Process Project (IBPP) which now transferred to QAC, and the University Administration Improvement Project (UAIP).
Initially, Mr. Shavger presented the current status of the policy proposals. He reported that several proposals received from March to May were pending review and had not progressed due to lack of engagement. This led to a broader discussion on the need for more timely feedback and commitment. Dr. Faek expressed concerns regarding the prolonged timeline for the Event Management Policy proposal. He noted that nearly three months had elapsed with minimal advancement, primarily due to insufficient commitment and a lack of review and feedback from the drafting team. Dr. Faek emphasized the need for more active participation to ensure timely progress.
Following this, Mr. Harikar introduced the Enhancing UoD's Digital Infrastructure Project (EDIP). He provided a detailed presentation on a comprehensive plan for organizing and managing the current IT warehouse and if successful he will apply it to all UoD's warehouse/inventory. His presentation included an operational overview and the general design and layout of the proposed system, which was positively received for its clarity and thoroughness.
Dr. Faek then provided an update on the Implementation of the Bologna Process Project (IBPP). He informed the committee that the IBPP had been removed from the strategic plan. In line with the University’s Risk Management Policy, a contingency plan had been developed, and the responsibility for the process had been shifted to the Quality Assurance Center (QAC). Dr. Faek explained that the contingency report would serve as evidence if needed.
In addition, Dr. Faek reported on the progress of the University Administration Improvement Project (UAIP). He highlighted that 102 documents had been completed, covering many university centers, he explained that the engineering and projects team came to a halt because the staff did not understand and do what they were supposed to but after a year the reset the whole thing and all the documentation and procedures/forms/guidelines were made in less than two weeks because the staff understood it and all of them contributed, and that the team in IRC planned to continue addressing additional documentation requirements as necessary.
Despite the meeting's productivity, there was not enough time to review the six proposals received by the University Policy Office (UPLO). Consequently, it was decided to schedule a follow-up meeting on July 10, 2024, which will be held online to facilitate participation and ensure timely discussion.
The meeting concluded with a clear sense of direction and commitment to advancing the outlined initiatives effectively.
