Dr. Dawood's Remarks at UoD Meeting
In his closing remarks during the recent SCSP meeting at the University of Duhok (UoD), Dr. Dawood emphasized the importance of the KAAE in elevating the university’s academic standing. He pointed out that UoD is actively working towards gaining accreditation from KAAE, a process that requires meticulous planning, development of policies, and alignment with international educational standards.
Dr. Dawood underscored the importance of understanding the "know-how" from the initial stages of preparation all the way to achieving full accreditation. He stressed that the accreditation process is not merely a formality but a transformative journey that involves continuous improvement in academic programs, research capabilities, and institutional governance.
Kurdistan Accreditation Association for Education (KAAE) OverviewThe Kurdistan Accrediting Association for Education (KAAE) is a national accreditation body established by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) through legislation enacted in June 2022. Their primary mission is to enhance the quality of education in the Kurdistan Region while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, transparency, and accountability.
As an administratively independent association, KAAE enjoys the support of the KRG and collaborates closely with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Together, they establish rigorous standards for educational quality assurance and provide effective mechanisms for their implementation. Additionally, KAAE assists both ministries in developing and upholding policies to ensure quality education throughout the region.
Funding Allocation by KRG
Dr. Dawood also highlighted the financial support from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), which has allocated $100,000 to ensure that UoD successfully completes the accreditation process. This funding will be crucial in providing resources for policy development, training, audits, and improvements needed for meeting the KAAE’s stringent requirements.
Importance of Accreditation
Accreditation through KAAE would enhance UoD’s academic reputation, making its degrees more valuable both locally and internationally. It would also improve the university's ability to collaborate with global institutions, attract international students, and secure further research funding. Dr. Dawood's emphasis on this process demonstrates the university’s commitment to raising its educational standards in line with global benchmarks.
