On December 5th, 2024, the Steering Committee of Strategic Planning (SCSP) at the University of Duhok (UoD) convened to discuss progress on strategic initiatives, policy development, and upcoming goals.

Key highlights from the meeting include:

Completion of Previous Action Items

The SCSP reviewed all action items from the prior meeting, confirming that each had been successfully completed and approved.

Review and Assignment of Policy Drafting Teams

Dr. Faek Diko presented 13 policy proposals crucial to UoD’s accreditation process. The SCSP assigned drafting teams for each policy, ensuring team members were both qualified and willing to participate in the development process. A formal decree will be issued to confirm these assignments, and the teams were encouraged to seek assistance from other university staff as needed.

Updates on Strategic Initiatives

Progress on four ongoing strategic initiatives under UoD’s Strategic Planning Framework was discussed:

1. Implementation of the Bologna Process
   Dr. Lokman emphasized the need for a robust internal quality assurance (IQA) system to ensure the initiative's success.

2. University Administration Improvement Project (UAIP)
   Dr. Faek Diko highlighted challenges in document management and recommended assigning two staff members to focus on document control, eventually integrating them into the Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA).

3. Green, Walkable Campus Development
   Dr. Nabaz outlined achievements in tree planting, road paving, and solid waste management while emphasizing the need to consult with the Department of Engineering during planning and implementation. He was tasked with presenting this initiative’s progress at the University Council Meeting on December 8th.

4. Enhancing UoD Digital Infrastructure Project
   Mr. Harikar reported on the initiative's progress but noted challenges with storing damaged devices. He proposed designating a specific area for damaged equipment storage.

Approved Policy Proposals and Assigned Drafting Teams

The meeting concluded with the approval of 13 policy Proposals essential for the accreditation process, including the Leadership Evaluation Policy, Academic Staff Recruitment Policy, and UoD Advisory Board Policy. Each policy was assigned to relevant drafting teams.
